For the athletes, the expectations have been described in the Activities page. Beyond that, we expect you to come to practices and events with a goal of learning our sport as a life long activity. We expect you to enjoy your teammates and treat everybody with respect and encouragement. We expect you to do your best to have fun, because like many endurance sports, it is the group fun that helps us get through the hard work and keep coming back for more.
Beyond that, for both athletes and parents, we do have a specific expectation. We do various activities that help fund our club beyond the dues. We host a couple of races that are our primary fund raisers and need volunteers and look to you provide them. This is a must: at least one person from each family must attend every fundraising meeting and help out at these events. We also expect you to help with driving to events as needed and to provide your share of food or other supplies. All this is described in the planning emails and web based documents.
Somebody in your house will have to participate in the email lists and visit the web sites to know what is going on with the team.
We expect you to purchase your own ski gear beginning in your second year with the team. We don’t expect you to purchase it all at once. The team also hunts down used gear from across the nation and will help you find used gear where possible. To purchase all new gear could range between $600 – $1000 when you consider both skate and classic gear. Used might get you covered for less than 1/2 of that but it depends on your skiing level and goals. Top quality boots are the most important purchase you can make and will make your learning go faster.
